So let’s get started:

Do you want an e-commerce website? Find out how to create and successfully run an online store. We will explain how to do it!

1. Choose and domain name

Web hosting is one of the key elements for accessing your business on the Internet.

Hosting stores all the files of your e-commerce store and allows visitors to access them.

However, with so many hosting companies available, finding a reliable provider can be challenging.

Although cheaper solutions may seem attractive, keep in mind that such providers can limit the overall capabilities of your e-commerce website.

Here are some factors to consider when choosing a hosting provider:

Availability guarantee (Uptime guarantee)

Frequent downtime is bad for e-commerce sites. In addition to negatively impacting search engine optimization (SEO), it can lead to lost sales and damage to brand credibility. Choose a hosting provider that offers at least a 99.9% uptime guarantee.

Speed & Optimization

Fast page loading helps improve user experience (UX) and site ranking. For optimal performance, choose web hosting with a server response time (SRT) of less than 200ms. Also, explore user reviews and CDN integration support

Bandwidth

It refers to the amount of data that a site can transmit to visitors in a certain period of time. The higher the bandwidth, the more traffic the site can handle. For optimal performance, check if your hosting provider offers unlimited bandwidth.

Storage

An e-commerce website should have enough space to accommodate content, including images and videos of products. Assess your needs properly so that your online store has enough room to grow

Security

Choose web hosting with a high level of protection to ensure the security of your site. Some of the important aspects include access management, SSL certificates, multi-layered firewalls, automatic backups and easy data recovery.

Simplicity of use

Although cPanel is very popular, some hosting providers offer custom control panels. That’s why not all providers have cPanel. For example, some of them offer an intuitive control panel that makes it easy to manage your hosting account. But it’s not the cPanel we’re used to.

User Support

A good hosting provider provides 24/7 customer support so that your e-commerce website is always available. It can also offer an extensive knowledge base and other resources to help

2. Which hosting is best for a website?

After finding the perfect web hosting for your e-commerce project, it’s time to decide on the type of hosting.

The four most common types of hosting are shared, VPS, cloud and WordPress hosting.

Here’s a quick overview:

Do you want an e-commerce website? Find out how to create and successfully run an online store. We will explain how to do it!
  • Shared Hosting: Allows one server to host multiple sites. Because of its affordability and simplicity, shared hosting is great for e-commerce beginners.

  • VPS hosting: Uses virtualization to divide physical server resources into private resources. VPS hosting usually comes with root access, allowing server-level configuration. Best suited for tech-savvy business owners who need maximum flexibility.

  • Cloud hosting: It also divides a physical server into multiple virtual servers. Creates a network of virtual servers to store site files. Because of its robust processing power, high-traffic sites can rely on cloud hosting.

  • WordPress hosting: Choose this type of hosting if you want to create a WordPress e-commerce site. It comes with specific optimizations, such as a one-time WordPress installation, automatic updates, and a testing tool.

Once you have decided on the type of hosting, start choosing the perfect hosting plan for your e-commerce site.
Properly estimate the required resources in order to avoid a negative impact on the operation of your online store.

3. Come up with good names for your domain

Domain is another key requirement for an e-commerce website. It is the address that users type into their browsers to access your website.

A good, custom domain reflects the entire brand of your online store and helps establish credibility, setting you apart from the competition.

Here are some tips for creating a good domain for your e-commerce website:

Short and clear

A short domain is more impressive and easier to remember. An ideal domain should be 15 characters or less.

– Without numbers and dashes

Avoid numbers and dashes to reduce the chance of typos and confusion, ensuring potential customers don’t end up on the wrong page

Always choose .rs

As this is the most popular national domain in Serbia, online customers will probably search for your store by typing yourbrand.rs.

This extension also makes your e-commerce store look professional.

If you are thinking of having your business outside the borders of Serbia, then the best choice is .com

Long-term thinking

Never add local details to your domain so as not to limit the growth of your online store.

Check trademark protection

Avoid using domains associated with other companies or brands to avoid potential legal problems.

You can check all that on Google.

Using a domain generator

It helps you come up with domain name ideas, which can speed up your brainstorming and domain name selection process.

Today, you will easily find a domain name generator that uses artificial intelligence to create unique business names based on keywords related to your niche or business.

Although you can purchase domains from any ICANN-accredited registrar, we recommend DreamWeb Hosting. You can do everything with them in one place. DreamWebhosting plans start from 4,260 dinars per year (SSD hosting), while the annual fee for the national domain .rs is 2,340 dinars. For the .com domain, the annual fee is RSD 1,980. These are the prices valid at the time of writing!

DreamWeb employees will help you simplify the process of developing your e-commerce site, because you won’t have to worry about finding a hosting service and a domain registrar, because they offer both services in one place.

4. Choose the right e-commerce platform for your website

When creating an e-commerce website, you can choose to host it yourself or use a platform for creating e-commerce websites.

Self-hosting your site gives you full control, but it’s expensive and requires a lot of time and knowledge. This means that you have to deal with site development, maintenance and security yourself.

If you are not technically skilled, you will need to hire a professional.

Alternatively, you can use a cloud-based e-commerce platform. For example, a platform like Wix for e-commerce, which makes it easy to set up your e-store. But you should know that a good e-commerce website on Wix is not cheap on an annual basis.

Therefore, if you plan to do online business for a long time, our advice is to create your own website or hire someone to do it for you.

Look for a platform that offers a simple website builder, as well as tools to manage different aspects of your business, from marketing and sales to inventory management and shipping.

Key features of an e-commerce web platform

When choosing a platform for your e-commerce website, consider the following key features:

  • Mobile-friendly: Choose a platform that offers responsive themes and templates, ensuring that your online store elements automatically adapt to different screen sizes. WordPress, namely Divi or Elementor, offer designer-made and mobile-responsive templates.

  • Security: The platform should offer fraud prevention measures, data backup and other security measures to keep your website and data protected. If you plan to accept credit or debit card payments, PCI compliance is a must.

  • Reliability: Every second of downtime can jeopardize sales on your website, so it’s important to find a platform that has the infrastructure to handle any volume of traffic. Ideally, it should support unlimited scalability and prevent site crashes during periods of high traffic to your website.

  • Back-office tools: Choose a platform that supports all the major functions, applications and automations you need to grow your business. Consider inventory management tools, product listings, shipping solutions, ordering and other features.

  • Cross-channel sales opportunities: As your e-commerce business grows, you’ll likely want to expand your reach with other marketplaces, social networks, and other channels. Choose a platform that allows you to manage your sales and marketing channels from a single dashboard.

Recommended e-commerce platforms

There are many e-commerce platforms available, but we use and recommend a combination of WordPress, Divi or Elementor and WooCommerce.

With them, you can effectively manage all aspects of your business, improve customer experience and increase sales.

No worries that something won’t work well!

5. Design yours e-commerce website

Your e-commerce website is the face of your brand, which means you want its design to be perfect from the start. The correct choice of design and template is crucial for strengthening the brand image and directing users to the right actions through e-commerce sales strategies.

We recommend WordPress as a platform, and Divi or Elementor as a builder. In the case of an e-commerce website, WooCommerce stands out as the right solution.

When choosing a theme, take into account the category of products you are selling – whether it is fashion, furniture, food or some other type of product.

Search the themes and templates offered by your e-commerce platform for inspiration. If you have no experience in creating websites, this can be a great solution.

The only drawback in this case is the necessary paid theme and Plugins.

Customizing e-commerce templates

After choosing a template for your e-commerce website, you can customize it according to your needs through the editor of your platform.

If you need help, you can hire a professional designer.

Here are some aspects to consider when designing your e-commerce website:

The images

It’s best to use your own product photos, including those that aren’t product-specific but serve as eye-catching header images, background images, or lifestyle photos. Be mindful of the size of each image so that each page loads as quickly as possible. In our opinion, Photoshop is the best for this, but if you don’t have experience working with it, there are a lot of free tools that can do it for you completely free.

Fonts and colors

Select typography and colors that match your e-commerce brand. Check that the text is easy to read and that the buttons are easy to see. Be consistent in your design, considering how colors and patterns have the power to convey different moods, memories and values. Make sure that the fonts have all the letters that are used in the Serbian language.

Home page

Think about the most important information to provide on the home page (think of it like opening a physical store). Highlight the most important products, messages and/or offers on the home page. You can also embed posts from your Instagram or Facebook feeds or add product reviews that showcase your brand’s authenticity

Navigation

Keep your navigation clear and well-organized. As a general rule, visitors should be able to find any product they need in three clicks or less. Add site search, sorting options and filters to further help customers find what they need faster

The mobile experience

When setting up your e-commerce website, don’t forget the mobile experience. Check that text, images, and buttons display properly on smaller screens like mobile phones and tablets

6. What are the important pages on every e-commerce website?

To attract and generate sales from your target audience, the information on the main pages of your site should be easily accessible and visible.

Here are some key pages that every e-commerce web shop owner should carefully develop.

“Landing page”

The home page is the first thing most customers see, so it should contain attractive and clear information about your site along with high-quality images and graphics.

It is important that the home page loads quickly. Most customers expect online store sites to load in 3 seconds or less. Otherwise, they might leave the website before they entered and never come back. Google also considers loading speed as one of the important ranking factors.

But we will deal with this topic separately in a text related to SEO.

To reduce the size of the home page and improve its loading time, reduce the images before placing them. You can use compression tools, such as Kraken.io or Tiny PNG. Also, enable caching and clean up the code.

If you have experience, PhotoShop is irreplaceable!

Additionally, ensure that the home page is easy to navigate. One of the easiest ways is to provide product categories and a search function.

They help customers find what they are looking for faster.

“About Us”

The “About Us” page allows visitors to learn more about your brand’s story and mission. In addition to providing information to online customers who have never heard of your brand, this site helps attract investors and partners.

In addition to a brief description of the company, you can include its background story, mission and values to set your business apart from the competition.

Introducing people to your company is also a great way to boost your “About Us” page.

This helps to humanize your brand, which allows for a more serious connection with visitors.

“Contact”

A contact information page allows customers to check the availability and reliability of your business. Make it easy for them to find your contact details such as phone number, email and physical address (if you have one or want to display it).

To improve your credibility, be accessible and transparent. Customers are likely to make a first or repeat purchase only if they trust your brand.

E-commerce websites can also use a contact form. By displaying a contact form, business owners can collect customer data to help generate and nurture leads.

“Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQ)

Buyers usually have many doubts about the buying process. The FAQ section can be of great help to all users of your website. Think about the most common customer issues or questions, such as shipping options, order tracking, or shipping countries.

In addition to detailed and useful answers, you can provide insight into the products and services of your business.

Also add a search bar to the FAQ page to make it easier for customers to find information.

“Privacy Policy”
Display your privacy policy in visible places such as menu, footer, login pages or checkout page.
In this case, we recommend hiring professional help when drafting the privacy policy to ensure its full compliance.
“Return and Exchange Policy”
A detailed exchange and return policy shows that the company stands behind the quality of its products and values its reputation. From the business owner’s point of view, this policy helps to handle exchanges and returns more efficiently. Therefore, consider the following when creating a replacement and return policy.
For example:
  • List of items that cannot be returned or refunded.
  • Time frame in which we accept returns and refunds.
  • Acceptable condition of the item, for example, with an attached invoice or price list.
  • How customers can request a return or refund.
“Shopping cart and secure checkout process”
Customers like to know what they have added to their cart while browsing other items. Organize all items neatly and include important details such as product images and accurate prices. For transparency and if possible, show a clear sum of costs and estimated delivery time.
Make sure forms are easy to fill out to make future purchases as easy as possible for customers.
Checkout without customer registration is a great feature for improving conversions, as it allows anyone to make a purchase without first registering.
At the same time, in this way you reduce the time required for the order.
“Delivery Solution”
In addition to payment options, providing different shipping methods is essential. Include information such as taxes, estimated shipping time, and whether international shipping is available.
Think about which methods your customers may prefer. Real-time shipping costs are a great choice if your products vary significantly in size and weight. However, if they are similar in size and weight, consider offering a fixed shipping rate.
A great suggestion is free shipping over the amount you set as the minimum for free shipping.
“Call to Action” (CTA)
A clear and simple call to action (CTA) is an integral part of a site with good navigation. CTAs are texts, images and buttons that tell customers what to do next.
This can include the following pages – Sign up for the newsletter, Register an account and Add item to cart.
Use bright colors on the CTA buttons, as the choice of colors can significantly affect the conversion rate of the page.
For these things, never use red!
“Product Pages”
Product pages are crucial in the customer decision-making process. With e-commerce web stores, customers cannot hold, feel or try the product. Instead, it’s all based on what they see in pictures and read on their devices.
This is why it is important to have professionally done images and provide complete and detailed product descriptions.
Covering all aspects of a product, including size, materials, uses and benefits can help customers make positive purchasing decisions.

7. Create product pages on your website

Product pages are critical to the success of your e-commerce website and should not be done lightly. If you create them correctly, you will not only drive sales, but also increase the chances of additional purchases through cross-sell and upsell strategies.

Be careful when creating product pages.

Think about the questions and assumptions customers may have when they can’t physically see or touch your products.

That’s why we’re going to reveal to you what the key and essential elements of product pages are.

While creating product pages, pay attention to the following elements:

Product names

Product names should contain an easily recognizable description. For example, if you sell headphones, include the word “headphones” or “earbuds” to make the products easier to find

Product images

Add multiple high-quality images from different angles to give customers a complete overview of the product. Where appropriate and possible, use video or info graphics for additional context. If your products come in different colors or styles, include images of each variant

Product descriptions

Product descriptions should answer frequently asked questions. Include details such as material of construction and method of production. Highlight the benefits of your product, not just its features, and emphasize what makes your product unique. Include keywords naturally to improve your chances of high search engine rankings. This part is part of SEO techniques and is very important for search engines

Shipping and Return Information

Today’s customers want as few clicks as possible, so including shipping costs and return policies on the product page helps create a more efficient user experience. Clearly displaying this information helps reduce misunderstandings and customer dissatisfaction

Product reviews

Include reviews on product pages by adding a widget or importing existing reviews from other sources. You can also display user-generated content, such as images of products in use, to further show authenticity

Opportunities for cross-sell and upsell

Add dynamic “related product” banners to draw attention to other products, accessories or components that may be of interest to your customers. As an additional option, offer premium product versions or product subscriptions

8. Don’t forget the payment and delivery methods

Whether you integrate offline or online payment methods, setting up a secure way to accept payments is essential. Every e-commerce website must have SSL certificates to strengthen the security of your e-store.

A secure online store makes a good impression and ensures that your customers feel safe when transacting. Paying with cards like Visa or MasterCard will not only increase your sales, but also provide additional security to your customers.

Many e-commerce platforms offer built-in payment integrations. For example, WooCommerce has WooCommerce Payments.

But you must know that many payment methods are not currently applicable in Serbia. It varies from country to country. PayPal and WooCommerce Stripe are very popular in the west.

And don’t forget the value added tax (VAT) calculation by setting tax zones and unit tax rates.

Setting up payment methods

Today’s customers expect different payment options. Some prefer credit or debit cards, others digital wallets, while some use payment apps.

We recommend offering as many payment options as possible to give customers exactly what they want. From our experience, cash on delivery is still the most popular payment method in Serbia. But from year to year, payments with credit or debit cards are increasing significantly.

Your e-commerce platform should include instructions for setting up an online payment gateway.

Most will ask you to enter and confirm the country of origin of your business, before determining which payment options and currencies are available in your region.

WooCommerce allows you to manage your entire business from one place, whether you want to view orders or payments.

Shipping and delivery setup

An efficient checkout experience helps customers complete their purchase, while an outstanding shipping and delivery experience helps keep customers coming back for more purchases.

Amazon has achieved great success precisely because of the very short delivery time compared to the competition.

So, when creating an e-commerce website, start by determining your shipping and delivery goals:

  • Do you want to send your products only on the territory of Serbia or all over the world?

  • What shipping policies can you offer customers (free shipping, flat rate, variable fee, etc.)?

  • Which courier service do you plan to cooperate with?

  • Will you use dropshipping in your business?

  • Which shipping management platforms do you plan to use?

Your e-commerce platform should allow you to easily set custom rules and integrate the most important Plugins so that you can provide good customer service and track shipping costs for each order.

If you use Divi or Elementor to create your e-commerce website, you can easily allow local customers to pick up their orders from a nearby warehouse or from your nearest brick-and-mortar store by setting up in-store pickup as a delivery option.

9. Testing and launching your e-commerce website

After you’ve created your e-commerce website, it’s important to test it thoroughly before publishing it. Most platforms allow a preview of the site before it is publicly available.

This will make it easier for you to see exactly how the website will look before the official release so that you can make any necessary changes.

Here are the steps to thoroughly test a website:

1. Test on different devices: Check how your website looks and functions on desktop computers, tablets and mobile phones. Especially on mobile phones, because almost 2/3 of searches are done on them.

Make sure that all site elements such as images, texts, buttons and links are properly displayed and functional on all devices.

2. Walk through the user experience (UX): Simulate the user experience, starting from searching for products, adding products to the cart, viewing the cart, to completing the purchase. Check if the process is simple and intuitive. If not, correct the errors.

It is important to put yourself in the role of the customer in order to go through this process as easily as possible.

3. Check site loading speed: Site loading speed is crucial for user experience and SEO. Use tools like Google PageSpeed Insights, Pingdom or GTmetrix to test your load speed and identify areas for improvement.

Optimize image size and enable caching to reduce load times.

4. Test the functionality of all links and buttons: Check that all links lead to the correct pages and that all buttons work as they should.
Broken links and buttons can frustrate or confuse users and reduce conversions.
5. Check the functionality of the payment system: Go through the payment process to make sure everything is working without problems. Test the different payment options you offer to make sure they’re all set up correctly and are secure.
This is especially important if you pay by credit or debit card.
When you are completely satisfied with the appearance and functionality of your e-commerce website, click “publish” and publish your new or redesigned website.
After publishing, monitor site performance and analyze user behavior using tools like GA4 and Google Search Console. According to us, these two tools are mandatory when creating every website.
They will help you a lot to identify possible problems and opportunities for optimization later.
Also, consider SEO optimization strategies to improve your website’s search engine rankings.
Focus on keywords relevant to your business, create quality content and build quality Dofollow backlinks to increase visibility and attract more visitors.
In this way, you will strengthen your Domain Authority (DA).
With thorough testing and continuous optimization (SEO), your e-commerce website will be ready to attract and convert visitors into satisfied customers. A successfully completed website is just the beginning of an online business.
If you want a better position on search engines, search engine optimization is necessary. And in fact, the real work for the website starts right there.
Without it (SEO) success on the web is almost impossible!

10. Start promoting your e-commerce store

After your e-commerce website is available to everyone, it’s time to spread the word about it.

Marketing an e-commerce website should not be problematic.

We will present to you, in our opinion, five effective ways to promote an online store:

Implementation of content marketing

Creation and distribution of valuable content, including blogs, videos and newsletters that help improve brand authority and establish a leadership position in the industry. SEO-driven content marketing additionally helps in ranking better on search engines like Google.

Increasing social media presence

Integrating social networks with an e-commerce website is a great way to reach a wider audience. Using social networks to provide customer support and manage feedback can be very useful

Starting affiliate marketing

Paying partners a commission for each purchase made through their unique affiliate links can increase organic traffic and ROI. Collaborating with content creators and influencers can further expand your target audience

Mailing list building

Email marketing can improve your overall marketing strategy. Encouraging visitors to fill out contact forms through surveys, quizzes or promotional offers can improve your contact list

Google Ads campaigns

Google Ads is a powerful tool for reaching your target audience and increasing the visibility of your e-commerce website. Through careful planning and optimization, you can increase your site traffic and improve conversions. Through continuous optimization and adaptation to market trends, your e-commerce business will be in a position to attract and retain satisfied customers.

Google Ads is probably the most important tool for promoting your e-commerce store. That is why we will explain in more detail how to properly define a Google Ads campaign.

Here are some steps to effectively use Google Ads for your e-commerce business:

  • Defining campaign goals: Before you start, clearly define what you want to achieve with your Google Ads campaign. These can be goals such as increasing sales, increasing the number of visitors to the site, collecting potential customers (Leads) or increasing brand awareness.

  • Keyword research: Keywords are the foundation of any successful Google Ads campaign. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner to identify relevant keywords that your target audience is searching for. Focus on keywords with a high conversion rate and an appropriate cost per click (CPC).

  • Creating attractive ads: Your ads should be clear, relevant and attractive. Include a call to action (CTA) to encourage users to click on your ad. Experiment with different ad variations to see which one appeals most to your target audience.

Landing page optimization: When users click on your ad, it’s important to take them to relevant and optimized landing pages. Make sure your landing pages are fast, mobile friendly and have a clear call to action.

  • Monitoring and analysis of performance: Using GA4 and Google Ads tools, regularly monitor the performance of your campaigns. Analyze key metrics such as click-through rate (CTR), conversion rate, cost per conversion and return on investment (ROI). Based on this data, adjust your campaigns to achieve the best possible results.

  • A/B testing: Test different variations of ads, keywords, and landing pages to see what works best. A/B testing helps you continuously improve campaign performance and achieve better results.

  • Using remarketing: Remarketing allows you to target users who have already visited your website but have not made a purchase. We think remarketing is very important and don’t skip it. Create custom ads to remind customers of the products they’ve viewed and encourage them to come back and complete their purchase.

Applying these strategies will surely help you effectively use Google Ads to increase visibility, traffic and conversions on your e-commerce website.

Conclusion

W3 Total Cache

W3 Total Cache is one of the most popular plugins for caching websites based on WordPress.

Caching is a method of storing the content of a website in order to load that data even faster the next time we access the same page.

In fact, the W3 Total Cache plugin shortens the loading time of your website.

This reduces the loading time, which Google especially appreciates, but it will be even better for your visitors.

That’s why we definitely recommend this plugin or something similar for every website.

The problem is if your website pages load slowly.

This is penalized by Google, but even worse is that visitors give up on your website very easily, regardless of the fact that it may be the best in its field.

W3 Total Cache helps keep your pages fast and reliable with minimal effort.

As with most, there is a free version.

If that is not enough for you, there are PRO packages whose price ranges from 59 USD for one website to 299 USD for an unlimited number of websites.

Smush

If we talk about website performance, images are the main culprit for slow loading of a website.

There are tools like Photoshop that easily adjust the size of any photo, but if you don’t want or don’t know how to use it, we advise you to definitely adjust the size of photos with the help of a plugin.

Overall, we are very happy with Smush.

As we mentioned, our favorite for organizing photos is PhotoShop, but if you don’t have time or have a lot of photos to process, the right solution can be the Smush plugin.

It automatically compresses images, which will significantly affect the loading time of the web page.

Smush will provide you with an easy way to reduce the size of your photos, no matter what builder you use to create your website.

It currently has more than a million active installations, which is always a good sign when choosing a plugin.

There is a free version, while a monthly subscription on a year-long contract ranges from $1.8 per month for 1 website to $20 per month for an unlimited number of sites.

Akismet Spam Protection

Another very important plugin. Akismet Spam Protection is the most popular antispam plugin for WordPress and is used by more than 5 million websites.

Akismet checks contact forms and suspicious comments. In this way, your website will be more secure and partly free of spam.

Installing and activating Akismet is very simple.

It automatically checks all comments and singles out those that it deems undesirable. The editor can see the number of accepted comments for each user.

That’s why we recommend it!

Akismet is a plugin that works in the background and will save you a lot of time and disk space.

The free version will be quite enough, but if you are a more demanding user, the PRO version of Akismet starts at $9.95 for a monthly subscription based on an annual contract.

XML Sitemaps

With the help of this plugin, you will make it easier for search engines like Google to find important pages and articles on your website.

XML Sitemaps supports different types of pages generated in WordPress. That way, you can be sure to send search engines enough data to index.

XML Sitemaps is highly adaptable to different types of WordPress pages and URLs. In this way, you inform the search engines when you have published a new post, category or product.

XML Sitemaps is free, but there is a paid version PRO account that costs $4 per month.

It is very easy to use, and it helps search engines to understand your website better. Thus, you will efficiently index the page.

This is very important if you want to avoid theft of your content.

In any case, XML Sitemaps will help you rank at no additional cost, while saving time.

Creating a website in 7 steps

Creating a website in 7 steps

Creating a website in 7 steps!

Anyone who wants to have their own website may not have the technical knowledge to do it themselves. But don’t worry, in this text we will clarify what is most important when creating a website. It’s much easier today than it used to be.

Before we start, you must be wondering:

Creating a website in 7 steps / We will explain in this text what is most important when creating a website. It's much easier today than it used to be.

Do I need the knowledge of a developer when it comes to creating a website?

Yes, if you want to create a website in the most complicated way. This requires that you know the basics of programming, that is, that you know HTML, JavaScript, CSS and PHP.

This is the best way if you want complete control. But certainly the most difficult, most expensive and longest way to get a website.

But there is a much easier and faster way to get a great website, without being a developer.

It is enough that you have basic knowledge in using a computer and that you know English.

There are a lot of platforms that have a lot of themes so it won’t be difficult to choose the right one.

We will not delay, but reveal to you:

Creating a website in 7 steps!

What we are writing is something we have concluded from our work. Because most of the web sites we have done go through these 7 phases, that is, steps.

They are:

1. Define what type of website you need.

2. Create your budget and choose a platform to work on.

3. Register the website domain (.rs, .com, .net, etc.)

4. Think about the content of your website and create a good site structure.

5. Choose a theme that suits you.

6. Add your content like images, videos and text.

7. Finally, publish and promote your new website.

This is the shortest possible explanation for creating a site. If you want to know a little more, read on.

We will start to explain to you item by item.

Creating a website in 7 steps / We will explain in this text what is most important when creating a website. It's much easier today than it used to be.

1. Define what type of website you need

Not all websites are the same, so we will divide them into several categories.

The following are the most common in our practice:

  • Micro websites. These are the smallest websites with 3 to 7 pages. The main page explains who we are and what we can offer in terms of products or services. There are also contact pages and about us pages. Possibly a blog page, privacy policy, FAQ and support.

Sometimes a slightly longer “American page” is made, where all this is only on one page. This type of website doesn’t get updated that often and once we’re sure everything is perfect with it we just let it do its job.

For this type of website, 7 days are enough to create.

  • Blog page. This is a very popular way of communicating with your followers. There you can give them space to actively participate with you in creating topics and content. Here, the method of inserting text and images is very simple and it will not be a problem to learn it very quickly.

A small blog can be created in a minimum of a week, and publishing new articles takes the most time.

Creating a website in 7 steps / We will explain in this text what is most important when creating a website. It's much easier today than it used to be.
  • Websites for sale. In our country they are known as online stores. They require the most time to make, but that again depends on your requirements. The simplest online shops need at least 3 weeks to create, provided that we have everything prepared in advance. More demanding websites require at least 6 weeks to 6 months to create. It may seem like a lot, but it is true. Here we recommend a CMS, and in our opinion it is best to use WordPress for this purpose. If you don’t know how to do this, we advise you to find someone with experience. Recommended in this case is the WooCommerce plugin.

2. Create your budget and choose a platform to work on

Once you have chosen which type of website would suit you best, then create your budget and choose a platform to work on.

To begin with, we will offer you 2 basic options:

Option number 1 – Creating a website with or without a developer.

This is the easiest option, especially if you want to spend less. This is the option with the lowest budget. It is up to you to propose how your future website should look like, but also to write the content, prepare photos and much more.

If you have a lot of work to do, then think carefully about this option. It’s worth it if you want to continue doing it and improve your business. Otherwise, think twice. And think carefully about which platform to choose. We wholeheartedly recommend WordPress.

– Option number 2- Leave the agency to create a website for you.

If you have a lot of work and you don’t know how to create a website, then this is the option for you. And here we suggest WordPress in combination with WooCommerce. In our opinion, this is the best CMS and it is very easy to install on any hosting.

It’s great if you want a multilingual website, and there are a lot of plugins that can help you. But if you want some advanced features, developer help will be necessary. Especially since the source code can be easily accessed, and we don’t advise it for someone who doesn’t have experience.

Creating a website / We will explain in this text what is most important when creating a website. It's much easier today than it used to be.

There are a large number of free and paid themes, so we suggest you look at them on the website www.themeforest.com.

It will be impossible not to find at least five of them that will suit you. There are already prepared pages for almost all branches of industry and trade. Before downloading, check the number of downloads and ratings.

And avoid those with a low number!

3. Register the website domain.

For those who don’t know, a domain is practically the address of your website. That address is called URL (Uniform Resource Locator) for short. Or to put it even more simply, if the website is a house, the domain would be its address. The Internet itself is actually a large network of connected computers.

To ensure networking, each computer has its own IP address. It would be really hard to remember so many numbers for the sites you want to visit, that’s why such domains are used for easier navigation.

Before registering the domain itself, you must check whether the domain name you have imagined is available. You can do that search in several places. If it is for the territory of Serbia, check on the website domen.rs. If your idea is to perform outside the borders of Serbia, you can check on the website domainchecker.com.

Think about the market you will be operating in, and choose an extension for your domain accordingly.

If you do business in only one country, use the domestic extension (in Serbia, use the .rs extension), and in any other case, you can use the .com extension.

When you want to register the domain of your website, it will be easiest for you with the company that will provide you with hosting services (you can also check the availability of the domain there). Domain rent is paid on an annual basis and currently costs from 500 to 2,100 dinars.

Please note that this amount may vary slightly depending on the company.

Make sure your domain doesn’t have too many letters and make it easy to remember.

If you can, make it sound like a brand so that you can promote yourself more easily on the Internet in the future.

4. Think about the content of your website and create a good site structure

This is a very important part. Here, we always start with the website structure first. We make sure that you can get to any category or product in a maximum of three clicks.

Improvisation is out of the question here!

You should do a good analysis and put on paper everything you will need. Do not rush this step because the biggest mistakes are made right here. And later they are difficult to correct. Design the categories well and if you are not sure, see how the competition has solved it.

We know this is not the right way, but it can solve your problems when you think it can’t go any further.

For the website structure, first write everything that is most important to you. Then organize it all as simply as possible.

Check out other websites to get some more ideas. When you’re done, ask your friends what they think and you’ll get some additional ideas from a different angle.

Take care of keywords, titles and other important elements. All this is very important for a good position.

And let’s not forget the important thing, which is the content!

You must not skimp on this. Make sure that your least important page has at least 300 words. Photos and infographics are very important, but what sells is the written word. If you don’t believe it, look at the best sites with strong competition and you’ll see what we’re talking about.

Without a well-optimized text, there is simply no success on Google.

You know that the average of good pages is about 2,000 words per page. That’s not much, but if you’re an expert and have the will, you’ll see that this isn’t too much!

5. Choose a theme for creating a website that suits you

As we mentioned, we would always advise you to choose a CMS. In this case it would definitely be WordPress.

There are many themes for it that can be free or premium (they are paid). There are several ways and places, but our suggestion is to look at the offer at www.themeforest.com. Navigation is very easy there and you can easily find a topic that will suit you.

Our favorites are Divi, Elementor and Astra. But there are hundreds of themes that are equally good, it just depends on your needs.

To know that each page can be changed, so a unique design can be created. If you want something special that’s out of the ordinary, you’ll need to hire a developer. But there are so many solutions that you probably won’t need this.

This is mainly for companies that have special requirements and large budgets. Whatever you decide, the next step involves making some design decisions.

Although it does not seem complicated, creating visuals for a website is not an easy task.

In our opinion, there are many more examples of bad design.

Creating websites on the WordPress platform may seem intimidating, but in reality it is not. Like other agencies, we are happy to use it.

If you are not sure, always use light colors for the background. Use matching colors and use the Color Wheel to help.

Keep the design clean and simple, and keep the font proven (for example, Helvetica) and from the sans-serif font group. One or two fonts are quite enough for each website.

And take care that your pages do not look confused, but should resemble each other.

So always stick to the rule “less is always more”.

6. Add your content like images, videos and text

Design is important, but content is even more important. And to know that it is always easier, faster and cheaper to change the design than the texts on the website.

It is very important that the text is original because if you copied it, even if it was the best in the world, you will not have any benefit. In fact, according to the latest Google Core Update, you can have a lot of damage if you go that way. To know that a text belongs only to the one who first published it and who was the first to be indexed.

Any subsequent text, if it is the same, is not taken into account by Google at all.

Which simply means that by copying someone else’s text, you actually caused yourself a lot of damage at the very start.

When you write a text, it must be understandable to someone who knows nothing about the field. Or better yet, you need to speak the language of your customers that they will understand. Take care of the headings and, if necessary, bold certain parts of the text. Don’t forget to indent the text to make it more readable.

And be careful not to fall into the trap of using expressions that hardly anyone understands, because that’s the easiest way to drive visitors away from your site. If you do not have the sense and time to write, it will not be difficult to find someone who writes optimized texts for websites.

It will be enough to do a little research on Google.

For photos and videos, there are many websites that will help you with this. Some are free and some you will have to pay for.

If you don’t have time or don’t know how to record or take pictures, this is the perfect solution.

Whatever photos you choose, remember to reduce their size so that each web page loads quickly.

And don’t forget that all pages that are important to you have a call to action (CTA).

7. Finally, publish and promote your new website

Before you publish a website, review it once more. It always happens that some mistake slips through. Even if that happens, don’t worry because everything can be corrected along the way. Because when the website becomes active, it can still be updated and changed.

It is important that your content is optimized and relevant and that you supplement it. If, for example, you are in the catering business and you change the menu, it is important that this change is published on your website.

Next is SEO optimization. In order to progress to the first page of Google you will need to optimize all the pages of the website. One part of this can be done when the site development is started, but site development does not imply advanced SEO optimization.

To know that this requires a lot of time and work, but it is always worth it. We’d even say it’s essential if you want to rank on the first page of Google.

If you want to know more, read our article “SEO optimization of the site”.

Let’s not forget the promotion of your website.

We recommend promotions via the following channels:

  • Google Ads advertising

  • Facebook

  • Instagram

  • E-mail marketing

  • TikTok

In our opinion, this is quite sufficient for most websites. If you have time, read our Google Ads article, because we think you can benefit from it the most.

And don’t forget to open accounts at the very beginning on two very important Google services, which are:

  • Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
  • Google Search Console

These are completely free tools and no one will give you better and more accurate results than them. Without them, you won’t know how your website actually works.

And whenever you publish something new, be sure to index it in Google Search Console so that your efforts are not in vain.

Conclusion

We hope that we have helped you at least a little with this text. We tried to explain in a very simple way what you have to go through when it comes to creating a website. In practice, it is even more complicated.

But don’t worry, all that can be overcome through work.

If you do not succeed in creating a website, you can always hire someone who does it. But with WordPress and a little effort it’s quite doable.

When the effort is put into creating great content and promoting your website properly, making money will come naturally. All websites have the potential to be profitable. On some sites it will be possible after two months, and on others after a year.

In any case, you should not lose hope, because the whole business does not take place only online. Don’t forget how many people see your offer on Google, and the whole job ends up in your company.

This is the other part of online business that is more important than online sales for many sectors.

Because for the vast majority of people, you do not exist if you are not on Google or another search engine

Creating websites on the WordPress platform

Creating websites on the WordPress platform

Is WordPress good for building websites?

Although creating websites on the WordPress platform may seem intimidating, in reality it is not at all. Like many other agencies, we are happy to use it for our clients because no one wants to create a website that will take several months.

In this way, the services of programmers, which are too expensive, are avoided. Essentially, a person with minimal programming skills is needed.

But what exactly is WordPress?

You have probably researched this on the internet as one of the solutions for your website. But you still have no idea what WordPress really is and how it can help you in your online business.

Don’t worry, we’ll try to explain it to you as simply as possible.

Creating websites on the WordPress platform may seem intimidating, but in reality it is not. Like other agencies, we also use it with pleasure.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is an open source content management platform, or content management system (CMS). The software itself is free and anyone can install, use and modify it.

For the simplest sites, creating websites on the WordPress platform can be completely free. It’s great for beginners as well as experienced professionals.

Initially, WordPress was mainly used to create blogs. However, with software development and improvements, today you can create any website you want.

But in this case, there will certainly be a need for themes, plugins and tools that are not free. You can create personal or company blogs, business websites, e-commerce stores and much more.

After installing WordPress, the next thing is to choose a theme. There are many topics that are divided by areas and it will not be difficult to find the one that suits you. There are a lot of free ones, but if you have a bit more requirements, a paid theme will solve the problems.

No matter what your idea is, you can create any website you want in WordPress. And all this thanks to the huge CMS capabilities and the large community that improves WordPress every day.

Let’s mention one more important thing for this platform, namely plugins.

In WordPress, a plugin is a small software add-on that can significantly expand some features and functions on your website.

And thanks to them, there are phenomenal sites that are built on WordPress. Here too, there are free and paid plugins, so it is always up to the one who builds the website to choose the best solution.

There are over 60,000 free plugins and thousands of premium ones made by independent developers.

More than 40% of websites are built in WordPress!

From originally planned as a blogging platform, WordPress has become the most powerful presentation tool on the web. Statistics from 2022, that is, W3Techs, say that the creation of websites on the WordPress platform uses about 43% of all websites on the Internet.

Once this was a network reserved for bloggers, while today WordPress is used by e-commerce stores, news and travel agencies and many other organizations. In order to understand how powerful WordPress is, we will mention some information.

WordPress was created in the year 2003 when two developers, Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little, decided to build a platform that would allow bloggers to publish their posts. They were very successful in that and in 2011, about 13% of websites were on WordPress.

Every year, that percentage increased and the assumption is that it will by the year 2025, the creation of websites on the WordPress platform will exceed an incredible 50% of the participation in the global network .

However, if we look only at websites that use a CMS (content management system), WordPress occupies an impressive 65% of the market.

In order to understand how superior they are compared to the competition, we will mention that the second on the list is Shopify with 6%, and the third is Wix with about 3% share.

Creating websites on the WordPress platform may seem intimidating, but in reality it is not. Like other agencies, we also use it with pleasure.

It is often heard that creating websites on the WordPress platform is not the best solution if you want a really serious website.

However, according to BuiltWith research from 2022, it was determined that WordPress holds 37% of the market of the top 1 million websites on Google.

Many well-known companies use it, including Nike, The New York Times, eBay, Sony, GM, UPS, Forbes, CNN, Reuters, Samsung, IBM, and many others.

We believe that this is enough information to convince you of the power of WordPress!

Which theme to choose for creating websites on the WordPress platform?

At the moment there are about 10,000 free themes for creating a website on WordPress. However, there are even more paid themes that average from $80 to $100. Maybe this price seems high to you, but premium themes offer a lot more options and are more flexible compared to free themes.

WordPress.org and themeforest.net are recommended for both options. We will mention a few topics that we consider to be the most important. These are Astra, Divi, OceanWP, Indigo, Neve, Hestia, Elementor, etc.

However, choosing one of them depends on your needs.

There are some topics that are narrowly specialized in some areas, such as restaurants or tourism, for example. Other themes are broadly specialized and can be applied to many e-commerce websites.

If you have any doubts about which topic to choose for your website, feel free to call us!

It is important that the theme corresponds to mobile devices (mobile friendly), so that your content is displayed as well as possible on mobile phones. Because today almost 80% of views are from mobile phones. Then the theme must be compatible with WordPress page builders, and it is recommended that they have customer support and are regularly updated.

Another important thing is the page loading speed and its performance.

Creating websites on the WordPress platform may seem intimidating, but in reality it is not. Like other agencies, we also use it with pleasure.

That’s why it’s important to analyze and compare any topic that you think is good with someone else.

This is not a one-hour job, and it can cause you big problems later. We work on several themes, depending on the needs of the clients, but we would single out the Divi theme, which proved to be one of the best.

Divi has a paid theme that costs $89 per year or $249 for lifetime access.

We’ve been using the Divi theme for many years and that’s why we really recommend it!

WooCommerce is used by one in five WordPress web shops!

This means that at least every fifth web shop created on WordPress is actually intended for online commerce. For those who don’t know WooCommerce will allow any WordPress site to become an e-commerce site. It’s free and compatible with several payment options.

Today, WooCommerce is one of the most popular plugins for e-commerce sites and holds about 20% of the market.

Just like WordPress, WooCommerce is built on a large set of features that can be easily extended. E-stores that use it have a double benefit from its multiple functionalities. They have access to thousands of themes and plugins, as well as hundreds of e-commerce extensions made exclusively for WordPress.

WooCommerce is extremely flexible. Literally, any type of sales web shop can be created with its help.

Thanks to the fact that it is open source, developers can change its features, can build new extensions and can adapt to almost any requirement. This is very important because developers are extremely expensive and take a long time to develop an option on demand.

The advantage of WooCommerce is that it is easy to use, so it will not be difficult to quickly train someone who can do the work for you.

It is very important that WooCommerce can provide a quick and easy experience for all users regardless of the size of the e-store. Proof of that is eBay that works perfectly! With a good choice of hosting, it can achieve even better results.

We can really recommend WooCommerce if you intend to open an e-shop!

To make you laugh, there is a joke that goes like this:

What is WooCommerce?

That’s the way to sell anything!

Yes, Yoast is a great plugin. Especially for beginners who have no experience with SEO content and website optimization.

You know that SEO professionals don’t like him because they think that everything he does, a man can do even better. We are of the same opinion, but until you have mastered Search Engine Optimization, we advise you to use it when adding new content to your website.

Especially since SEO optimization is very complex and requires great knowledge and a lot of analysis.

According to data from 2022, Yoast has over 5 million active installations and an almost clean five for the rating. . To ga čini jednim od najpreuzimanijih plugin-ova sa skoro najboljom ocenom. Besplatan je za preuzimanje i korišćenje do jednog izvesnog nivoa.

After that, the annual subscription for Yoast SEO Premium is 99 euros + VAT, but believe us that this plugin is mandatory, even in the free version.

In the premium version, all tools are unlocked and it will be much easier for you to attract visitors from Google and social networks like Facebook and Instagram.

You will have 24/7 support throughout the year, and you can access the Yoast SEO academy for free to learn new skills.

Will a WordPress website work for me?

It will definitely suit you! Once the creation of websites on the WordPress platform is complete, a little training will be required to manage the website. But everything is made so that anyone can understand the basics.

Of course, this does not mean that you will be able to use all the possibilities on your own. But you can work smoothly and educate yourself on how to properly use a WordPress website.

If you are a beginner, it will not be difficult to add and create a simpler new page yourself, and there are many tutorials on YouTube.

WordPress is really flexible, so personal or company blogs, e-shops or online newspapers can be created equally well on it.

Whatever you think is possible!

The software is open source and not owned by any company. And that means that thousands of developers collaborate and contribute to the progress of WordPress. Even if you don’t know how to write a single line of code, it won’t be a problem to manage the site.

Leave that job to the developers!

The good thing is that the WordPress site can be modified and upgraded with various plugins to get some functions that you need now.

And one more very important thing, which is website security. Given that no platform can be said to be 100% secure, this also applies to WordPress.

But it is still one of the safest!

The biggest problem is not WordPress or any other platform, but a mistake by someone who manages the site.

So be careful about everything that comes from outside your website. For any questions and tips, check out what the WordPress community has to say.

WordPress 5.0 and WordPress 6.0!

These are the last two and most important updates for us, especially WordPress 5.0 (better known as Gutenberg). WordPress 5.0 was officially launched on December 6, 2018. This is a very important update because it has completely changed the way developers use CMS (content management system) with its new Gutenberg editor.

Since then, the building of websites in blocks has started and a new Twenty Nineteen theme has been installed for new installations.

It was a big shock and change for the editors because they could no longer use the classic WordPress editor or the WordPress text editor they were used to using until then. To the great opposition of users who were surprised by this fundamental change, the use of the WordPress editor was extended until December 31, 2021.

WordPress 6.0 is the last major update of WordPress for now and it happened on May 24, 2022. . It was not as radical as “Gutenberg”, but it brought many changes. With this update we expected, but we also got a lot of new functions and improvements. With version 6.0, WordPress has continued to improve the tools and new great features.

On it, the developers really tried to fix some bugs that always somehow got through.

Creating websites on the WordPress platform may seem intimidating, but in reality it is not. Like other agencies, we also use it with pleasure.

This was a huge change as there were over 400 updates, 500 bug fixes and 90 brand new features.

Really impressive!

The list display has been significantly improved, new blocks have been introduced, the block editor has been improved, new templates have been added, the theme style has been changed and much more.

These changes made it much easier to use the WordPress platform, and the UX (user experience) became even better.

Conclusion

WordPress is an amazing platform that can be used both for the simplest websites and for the creation of high-quality and very demanding websites.

Like all platforms, it has some disadvantages, but what WordPress can provide, no other similar platform can.

However, it has something that other platforms cannot fulfill. And that is the widest range of options and the ability to adapt to your needs and requirements. We are sure that no other platform is as flexible and extensive in its offer of add-ons.

If you are not demanding, you can create a website with a free theme and plugins. The software itself is also free of charge and has frequent updates. We can say that this is a powerful platform with unlimited potential.

Everything can be done to make the website 100% mobile friendly with the help of free or paid plugins.

The module itself is extremely adaptable to developers and has pre-built security functions and protections. For many doubts, we often visit the WordPress global community and they are really recommended.

However, we have some complaints, because we are also part of the WordPress community. First of all, we would point out the lack of direct support from the WordPress company. Sometimes it is very difficult to find a solution, and we all waste a lot of time looking for it on the Internet.

There is no such thing as a perfect e-commerce plugin like Magento 2 for web stores that have over 50,000 items.

For some advanced customization you will need a good programmer, and for people who do not have prior knowledge it can be complicated.
Also, someone always has to take care to update the software on time.
However, these are not such big problems, because other platforms are even worse with their problems. That’s why there is no perfect platform for creating websites.
If we were to choose the best platform for creating websites, it would definitely be WordPress!
